Dawn was born in Illinois and is the oldest of four girls. She’s always wanted to write and, in fact, wrote her first book at age seven: a gripping, non-fiction page turner about pet care. Dawn also spent many hours journaling throughout her childhood. However, every last entry was destroyed because she worried one of her sisters would eventually use them as blackmail.
Before writing, Dawn had a short-lived (very short) career in acting. Her first role was the Virgin Mary in the Christmas Story at her Catholic school. Her mother has the pictures to prove it. Though she may be best known for her roles as the Tortoise in The Tortoise and the Hare and as Goldilocks in a modern retelling of The Three Bears. Who are we kidding? Those were her only roles.
Dawn did, thankfully, have writing to fall back on. So she spent her high school and college years studying and writing for various newspapers. Her first job was in broadcast journalism for a CBS affiliate in northern Minnesota and later with the CBS and FOX TV stations in the Twin Cities. During her time in television, she interviewed a bunch of cool people and a few jerks, but her lips are sealed on that because she’s a professional and maybe just a tad bit afraid of conflict.
Today, Dawn hangs out with her husband and son. They love to travel, hike, read, and watch tons of movies.
